What is the Difference Between Indica and Sativa?

While there are a vast variety of cannabis and hemp strains, virtually all of them are ultimately derived from only two family species. These two essential species are known as Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica. While there being only two segmentations, the differences between them, from their chemical composition, physiological aesthetic, to their medical applications are very wide.

Sativa strains produce more of a cerebral, euphoric feeling, lifting the user’s mood and therapeutically relieving stress. Indica strains are felt more in the body, can relax muscles and also help with sleep.

Individual plants produce different effects, even within the same type of hemp. It all depends on the plant’s chemical composition and the growing techniques used. For this reason, plant types are broken down into specific strains, or breeds.

Strains are distinguished by their individual cannabinoid and terpene content. These compounds are what determine the strain’s overall effects.
